An Orthodontist is a specialist in orthodontics. Orthodontics involves both cosmetic work to improve the appearance of your teeth by aligning them to give you a symmetrical smile, but also involves correcting bite problems where the teeth don’t meet together as they should for example with overjets and overbites.

Mr Winston is a dentist with a special interest in orthodontics, and after graduating with a dental degree went on to study orthodontics at a post graduate level to achieve a Master of Science degree in orthodontics.

Looking for an orthodontist?

Mr Winston provides all types of orthodontic treatments including fixed metal or clear/ceramic braces, rapid six month braces or Six Month Smiles, invisible braces such as lingual and removable braces e.g. Invisalign and the Inman aligner. We would never push anyone into selecting any particular type of brace. If you come to our practice for your orthodontics, we would simply show you your options, explain the pros and cons to each system and we will strive to achieve the best smile we can for you whatever you decide. How to find an orthodontist?

You could ask your own dentist to recommend an orthodontist or if you would like a free initial consultation from Mr Winston, who is our resident orthodontics expert at Mossley, we do not require a referral from your dentist. Simply give us a call and book a free consultation. Mr Winston is a dentist with a special interest in orthodontics. He has been providing orthodontic treatments at Mossley Dental Care for over ten years and has achieved a Masters of Science degree in the specialty.

Does tooth straightening hurt?

Modern orthodontics only applies light pressure to move teeth and as such most patients are able to tolerate braces very well. We have treated hundreds and hundreds of patients at Mossley Dental, and almost all patients tell us the same thing – that braces are slightly uncomfortable for the first few days and usually take about two weeks to get used to. Initially you will be on a soft diet until you have gotten used to them, but after two weeks things get much easier and there is very little discomfort after that.

It’s normal for your bite to feel a bit funny initially with fixed braces or Invisalign but that is only temporary.

Fixed braces such as ceramic braces, Six Month Smiles or Damon braces have rounded edges and so don’t cause much discomfort. Lingual braces can cause a little bit of irritation on your tongue until you get used to them but this is not a problem for more than a couple weeks.

Overall, although everyone has a different pain threshold, we find that tooth straightening is mostly pain free and people tolerate the procedure very easily after a short period of adaptation.

How much does teeth straightening cost?

The costs of our bespoke services are unique to each case. We don’t work with ‘one size fits all’ solutions; we treat each of our clients individually and work to match their specific needs. We therefore cannot provide a price list for orthodontic treatments as every case is different. We do however offer a free initial consultation where we can show you the different options and provide a no obligation quote. Prices may vary depending on what type of orthodontic treatment you go for. For example, if you want Invisalign it tends to be a bit more expensive than the Inman aligner and lingual braces (invisible braces) cost more than ceramic braces. However, as we are out of the city centre our overheads are lower and we are certain that not only are our prices very competitive but we are very proud of the standard of service that we provide at those prices.
