Lingual Braces

Tooth straightening can now be achieved by placing braces on the inside surface of your teeth so that they are completely invisible.

stbWhen you’re hiding your teeth in a group photograph it can feel like you’re the only person without a perfect smile, but studies show that 48% of people in the UK feel self-conscious about their teeth. The amount of rapid, invisible dental treatments available has resulted in an increasing number of adults choosing to undergo orthodontic work to achieve a perfect smile.

Although you might think that your teeth are too crooked and misaligned to be straightened by the more invisible orthodontic treatments, you can rest assured that lingual braces are an equally discreet option.

Lingual braces have been created using the latest technology to be as comfortable and unobtrusive as possible. As opposed to traditional braces, the lingual brackets are designed to dramatically reduce friction and apply less force but in a more effective way.

The Lingual braces are attached to the back of your teeth, which means when you’re undergoing treatment no one will be able to tell. Despite its positioning, these lingual braces have been thoroughly tested to ensure that they make the least impact on your tongue and speech. Any sign of speech alteration was shown to disappear after a few days of the brace installation.

Unlike other fixed brace options, lingual braces are constructed from hi-tech wires which results in a significantly shorter treatment time between 6-16 weeks.

FAQs

What are lingual braces?

Lingual braces are orthodontic appliances which are fixed to the back surface of your teeth so they are completely invisible braces.

At Mossley Dental Care, Mr Winston offers various types of lingual braces and we select the best appliance for your specific problem. Some mild cases can be treated in just a few weeks, the majority of moderate cases of crooked teeth can be treated with lingual braces in about six to nine months and more complex cases which require extractions will take longer.

Lingual braces work just as well as traditional clear braces or ceramic braces and Mr Winston does use the Six Month Smiles technique with lingual braces too.

If you have crooked teeth and are interested in lingual braces then we invite you to call our reception and book a free no obligation consultation.

Do Invisible braces hurt?

The invisible braces that we use at Mossley Dental Care are quite comfortable as they have smooth rounded edges which feel better on your lips and tongue. Lingual braces are a little more uncomfortable on your tongue compared to clear or ceramic braces which go on the outside of your teeth compared to lingual braces which go on the inside surface.

Invisible braces are just as effective for orthodontics compared to metal braces; they work just as quickly, and obviously do look better compared to old style metal braces.

Some mild pain killers may be necessary for a couple days but most people do not need them as the discomfort is quite mild.

How much are invisible braces?

Every orthodontic case is different and we charge a fixed fee depending on the complexity of the case. We offer a free consultation so that we can provide you with a quote for invisible braces.

We do offer flexible payment plans for invisible braces which include ceramic braces, Six Month Smiles, Invisalign or lingual braces. The cost of braces does depend on which type of brace is being used. At Mossley Dental Care we offer the full range of orthodontic treatments and both Mr Winston and Mr Watson have the professional expertise to openly discuss the best options for their patients.

How long do you have to wear invisible braces?

This depends on a number of factors. Treatment times with invisible braces can last anything from a few weeks to two to three years for the most complex cases. Mild irregularity of the front teeth tends to be the quickest type of orthodontic treatment, but when treatment also involves major bite correction then treatment times can often increase. However, at Mossley Dental Care Mr Winston uses state of the art brace systems, making treatments much quicker than they used to be.

One common type of invisible brace is the Six Month Smiles brace and these can straighten your front teeth in a matter of months. Even more appealing to our patients is that these braces can be completely invisible, so nobody needs to know you’re in treatment if that is what you would prefer.
