The truth is that tooth straightening treatments have been on offer for over one hundred years. But technology has progressed rapidly in the last ten years. In the olden days of orthodontics every tooth being moved needed to be banded with metal bands. Things progressed with adhesive technology when we were able to get rid of our metal bands and use metal brackets which were smaller, more comfortable and much easier to clean.
Even more recently ceramic brackets became popular which were far less noticeable for those interested in clear braces. Lastly lingual braces are becoming more common as they are completely invisible braces. More and more patients are now requesting these invisible lingual braces.
The wire technology has also progressed in recent years with modern alloys which have “shape memory” properties which move teeth with the perfect force level allowing us to move teeth very quickly and comfortably. Mr Winston uses a wire for all his six month smiles patients which is coated in a tooth coloured material so that the wire blends in very well.
The great news is that Mr Winston uses the Six Month Smile technique with lingual braces so that many cases can have straight teeth with completely invisible braces in about six months.
