Why Should Patients Near Denton Choose Lingual Braces?

Crooked tooth can spoil the look of your mouth as can certain  braces. It is true that when we talk to person who is wearing them that sometimes attention automatically goes to the braces. However, there is a single solution for both of these situations, and that is Lingual braces. Lingual braces are placed behind the teeth and unless the patient would tell anyone that they wearing one, no one will ever know.

The treatment is very effective and patients can have a confident and beautiful smile within a short time. Some of the treatments take just around six months, which is a very less in comparison to the conventional treatments.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are not offered by many dental practices, because it requires extra training. Mr Winson at Mossley Dental Care has been trained by a one of the best in this field and takes pride in extending this treatment to the patients at the practice. Lingual braces have allowed many adult patients to get their teeth fixed.

Hidden braces

Since the braces are nicely hidden and the treatment time is short in comparison to traditional braces, adults with active work life or social life are also able to benefit from this treatment. Both the upper and lower teeth can be fixed using these braces. Issues such as spaced teeth and overlapping or crooked teeth can also be fixed using this treatment. All treatments are done in a comfortable and caring environment within the practice.

Lingual braces require the patient to take extra care while brushing. Since they are placed at the back of the teeth and are not easily visible, patients tend to forget the presence of these braces.

These braces can be used in combination with the conventional braces, like using the lingual braces on the upper teeth and using Invisalign or clear braces for the lower teeth. You can discuss what will work best for you case at the free initial consultation at Mossley Dental Care near Denton.

Modern Orthodontic Treatments For Patients from Glossop

‘Orthodontics’ refers to procedures carried out by dental professionals to alter the alignment and the ‘bite’ of a patient’s teeth. This quest for perfectly straightened teeth is by no means a new craze; it is reported that ancient mummified bodies have been uncovered with fibres from animal intestines wrapped around the jaws. Perhaps it’s better to stick to modern techniques. Talk to us here at Mossley Dental Care near to Glossop to see if any of these treatments are suitable for you:

Standard Braces

Metal braces – often referred to as ‘train track’ braces – are a common way of straightening teeth and altering a patient’s bite. However, as this process can take up to three years, it is becoming increasingly unpopular.

Incognito Lingual Braces

In a world where people are becoming more and more conscious of their appearance, many patients want the full effect of braces, but without them being visible to others. Lingual braces offer this as they are attached to the back of the patient’s teeth but apply the same pressure as standard braces. This orthodontic treatment also prevents damage to the surface of the teeth.

Six Month Smiles

This modern process involves a near-invisible set of custom trays that are attached with transparent dentist adhesive and teeth-coloured wires and brackets. These trays allow modifications to the teeth without anybody but the dentist and patient having to know.

Simpli5 Aligners and Invisalign

Simpli5 and Invisalign are two versions of the modern technology of clear, removable braces. Similar to Six Month Smiles, they are practically invisible to others, allowing anybody who is slightly embarrassed about wearing braces that much sought for discretion. These solutions to crooked teeth differ as they involve a series of trays that are designed specifically for the patient’s teeth, often every two weeks, to gradually mould them into the desired positions.

Patients near Stockport can Benefit from Invisible Teeth Straightening with Lingual Braces

What are lingual braces?

Lingual braces are custom made and fitted to the back of a patient’s teeth in order for them to appear invisible to other people. The braces are made in two parts, brackets and arch wires. Where as with traditional braces the brackets are attached to the front of the teeth, Lingual braces are cemented to the back of the teeth, making them the more attractive alternative to the traditional brace.

However, the Lingual brace has pretty much the same function as the traditional brace as it sets out to correct bad bites, misaligned teeth, gaps, crowding and rotated teeth and pushes the teeth into a straighter position. They can also be worn on both the top and bottom teeth just like the traditional brace.

Fitting a Lingual Brace

The Lingual brace system is fitted over two visits, which requires three to five day intervals. At your first visit you will have an impression taken of your teeth with a plastic mould that will then be sent off so the brackets can be made and customised to fit your teeth. During your second visit the dentist will cement the back of each individual bracket before they are put into place on the back of the teeth. After this is done, the wire will then be threaded through the brackets at the back of the teeth, which creates pressure to move the teeth into a straighter position.

Lingual braces tend to be more expensive than the traditional brace and can take longer to show positive results and usually take one to three years instead of the one to two years with traditional braces. However, patients near Stockport and throughout the UK do not need to worry about their appearance during this time, so even though treatment takes longer, no one will ever see it.

The Completely Hidden Fixed Brace Treatment for Patients from Dukinfield

Adolescence is a stage that even those in it despise, and nothing conjures up ‘awkward-teens’ quite like the old train-track brace face. This unfortunate stigma can make having a brace, at any point in your life, a rather unattractive prospect, especially considering most people who require one for treatment end up wearing the thing for between twelve and twenty four months.

A solution?

The word ‘lingual’ is derived from the Latin for ‘close to the tongue’ and can be used as an adjective for things relating to the tongue or relating to language (i.e. bilingual or lingual diversity). Lingual braces live up to their name, not only by being closer to the tongue than conventional braces, but also for the amount of talking you’ll be doing in them; as no will know you’re wearing braces in the first place. Lingual braces are exactly like conventional braces, except they are fitted to the back of your teeth rather than the front. They will do exactly the same job; just no one has to see them.

But what about ‘invisalign’ braces?

Invisalign braces are another form of hidden brace, though Invisalign braces are clear and thus hidden in plain sight. What are the advantages of Lingual braces over Inivisalign? One is that Lingual braces are fixed. This might sound odd to posit as an advantage, but it avoids any problems which may develop as a result of the wearer’s carelessness with removable braces. Treatment with Invisalign works in increments with a new brace being provided roughly every three weeks, but the treatment also requires you wear your brace for between twenty and twenty two hours a day. Failure to do so can result in the next increment of the treatment not fitting, delaying the treatment and hiking up the cost. In terms of price Lingual braces can also be much cheaper: The most expensive form of Lingual treatment being two thirds of Invisialign’s cheapest.

Patients from Hyde Learn how Lingual Braces can Improve Their Smiles

Lingual braces work in much the same way as conventional braces do, but instead of being fitted to the front of the teeth they are fitted to the rear of them. This means that from a cosmetic perspective they are preferable to traditional fixed braces, as you do not end up with what is sometimes referred to as ‘train-tracks’. Just like conventional braces they apply a continuous level of pressure on the teeth in order to correct the misalignment and create a straighter appearance.

The time frame for this version of the brace is 12 to 24 months, which is similar to conventional braces and the final results are the same as their conventional counterparts. The only difference between the two is the invisibility of lingual braces, which makes them a popular option for people who wish to correct their smile, without it being obvious to others that treatment is being undertaken.

Lingual braces for patients from Hyde are relatively straight forward to fit and it usually only takes two trips to the dentist. During the first visit a mould will be taken of your mouth, so that the brackets can be personally customised to fit you perfectly. The second visit will involve the brace being fitted, when the brackets are cemented onto the teeth and the dentist then installs the wire, which creates the tension needed to straighten the teeth.

Because the braces are fitted to the rear of the teeth there are some other points that need to be considered, such as the additional time it will take for your mouth to adjust. This may cause a slight lisp and the tongue may occasionally be caught, but once the mouth has fully adjusted it should be no more intrusive than a standard brace.

Lingual braces are, for all intent and purposes, the same as conventional braces, but are simply fitted to the rear of the teeth rather than the front. The job they perform is no different and there is no increase or decrease in treatment time. They are simply more atheistically pleasing, as no-one else will know you have had them fitted.

Choose between lingual braces or Invisalign in Manchester

Crooked or overlapped front teeth are very common. Although there are many theories about what causes it to happen we dont really know for sure what the main cause is. We do know that it has become much more common and severe in the last few hundred years which brings in the possibility that it is due to a change in our environment because of modern living. One theory is that it is due to changes in our diets in modern times or it could be to do with pollutants in our cities which could have caused allergies which have affected the growth of our jaws and teeth. It is also true that some patterns of abnormal development of the teeth run in families so there is may be a genetic component to the problem.

Whatever the cause it is very common to see people in their twenties and thirties whose teeth are getting worse with age. Many patients come to us from around Manchester and tell us  that their teeth used to be straight but over the last few years they have started to overlap and they are now considering tooth straightening treatments. Lots of these patients don’t want traditional braces and two of the most common choices are lingual braces or Invisalign.

Lingual braces are fixed to the inside surface and so are 100% invisible. Invisalign is a clear transparent aligner which is removable for eating and cleaning.

Mr Winston has experience in both these invisible braces systems and will happily talk you through the pros and cons of each brace type at your free initial consultation.

We are achieving great results every week with lingual braces and Invisalign along with other brace systems such as Damon braces and the Inman aligner. Mossley Dental Care is just off the M60 and is conveniently located to attract patients from all round Manchester, Stockport and Rochdale. Last week a patient came to us from Didsbury and told us that their dentist does not provide tooth straightening treatmentand wanted to have their orthodontic treatment with us. Of course we are happy for patients to continue to have their check ups at their regular dentist during their orthodontic treatment. She told us she picked our practice due to a recommendation from a friend who has recently finished Six Month Smiles treatment with us.

Mr Winston has a postgraduate degree in orthodontics and is proud to offer a high quality service.

Lingual braces have come into fashion in Manchester

Various tooth straightening systems have come in and out of fashion over the last twenty or thirty years and now adults are becoming much more self-conscious about having braces. People no longer want to show metal train-track type braces and they don’t want to have them on for two or more years.

It is for this reason that invisible lingual braces have come more into fashion than ever before. They are placed on the inside surface of your teeth so that they are completely invisible. The alternative is ceramic braces which are almost clear but if you look closely can still be seen but there is no way anyone could see lingual braces during normal conversation.

These types of braces do take a little bit longer to fit and are a bit more uncomfortable on your tongue initially but if you want completely invisible braces then lingual is the way to go. The only thing that your friends or work colleagues would see is the change in your smile to one that you are proud of.

Mr Winston provides lingual braces in Manchester and uses a system that in some cases can straighten the front teeth in six months or less! Not all patients are suitable but Mr Winston offers a free initial consultation so your requirements can be assessed.

Alternatively you could opt for Invisalign which is practically invisible and unlike lingual braces is removable which means you can take it in and out yourself.

All of our adult orthodontic patients receive free home tooth whitening at the end of treatment and we offer various payment options including interest free payments to spread the cost.

If you live in or around Manchester and are interested in lingual braces or any type of tooth straightening system then either call reception or email us to get the ball rolling.
