The festive season brings with it a time to reflect on self and appearance. Missing or loose teeth, denture discomfort and so on can change the way we smile, look, communicate and even eat. However, dental implants can make all the difference to your smile and experiences of festivities this holiday season.
What are dental implants?
Dental implant treatments consist of a titanium “root,” which fuses to the jawbone much like a normal tooth root. These “roots” support or anchor replacement tooth restorations, which look much like natural teeth. Implants can be used to replace single or multiple teeth depending on a patient’s needs. Crowns, bridges and dentures are examples of replacement teeth or dental prostheses that can slot onto a dental implant to serve as a tooth.
Dental implants come in root-form, plate-form and mini. Mini implants are usually temporary until a fixed implant is fitted. Root-form implants are termed endosteal implants and involve titanium posts being inserted directly into the jawbone during surgery. Plate-form implants are termed subperiosteal implants because a frame, usually metallic, is attached to the jawbone beneath the gum tissue. In both endosteal and subperiosteal treatments, the implants fuse to the jawbone.
How will I feel during and after dental implant treatment?
Depending on your personal needs, your Audenshaw dentist at Mossley Dental Care will advise you on any pre-implant treatment, explain the dental implant procedures, answer your questions and talk about any concerns you may have. You will feel informed, at ease and confident about your dental implant treatment.
How it works
The procedure involves a little hole being made with a dental drill for the temporary “mini” implant to slot into, which stimulates bone fusion. After the bone and gums have healed and the implant has fused, a root or plate form implant is then fitted with a replacement tooth. New procedures such as the all-on-4 dental implant treatment reduce treatment and healing time and provide strong natural looking teeth that sit comfortably in the mouth when eating and speaking.
With dental implant treatment, you can be ready for the festive season feeling confident about your smile and good about the way you look.
