Root form dental implant

First there is the root form dental implant. This implant is used most often and is best if there is a lot of depth and width to the patient’s jawbone. When being fitted you will receive an anaesthetic and once this has taken effect your dentist will then proceed to expose an area of the jawbone before preparing it for the insertion of the implant. Once the implant is inserted and fitted into the correct place your gums will then be stitched so the healing process can commence, which can take 3 to 6 months. Once the implant is fully healed the abutment will then be attached. For those who have narrow jawbones, or a jawbone that is too short for the implant to be fitted, bone grafting may be required first.

Immediate Load Dental Implants

Then there is the immediate load dental implant. This implant and crown are immediately placed after the extraction of a tooth. To have this treatment you must have a significant amount of bone in order to stabilise the implant.

When having this type of implant there are two different procedures, the first requires an impression to be made of your jawbone after it has been exposed, this is then used to make a personally fitted implant for your jaw. You could also have a CAT scan instead of an impression of your jaw in order to build your implant.

Deep bleaching protocol

Zoom! whitening

Zoom! is one of the most popular whitening systems available. Unlike the two previously mentioned procedures, Zoom! whitening can be completed in about an hour. Zoom! utilises a gel activated by ultraviolet light. Together, the gel and light work to break up stains on the teeth and whiten the teeth. Suitability

Failed post crowns

One of the common problems we see at the practice is the  failure of post crowns. These are teeth that have been saved from extration in the past by root filling the tooth and then providing a post to provide retention and then a crown over the top of the post.This type of treatment is an advanced form of restorative dentistry and the final attempt to save a failing tooth. Depending on a number of factors the long term prognosisi of such a treatment can vary from a few months to many years of successful function.

What happens when theses teeth fail?  Failure occurs when the root supporting the crown can no longer retain the post possibly due to decay around the root or a root fracture. If a tooth has a root fracture it is advisable to have it removed as soon as possible otherwise significant bone loss may occur which may compromise the placement of an implant.

Extraction is the only option. If a patient is wearing a denture then a tooth may be added to this denture. If a patient does not wish to have a denture long term then a bridge or dental implant is the treatment of choice .

The provision of a bridge may mean destruction of sound adjacent teeth in order to facilitate a bridge. The most conservative option is a dental implant.The modern implant is often simple to place and provides  long term success.
