Mossley Dental Care Look at why some Children from Glossop Suffer Tooth Crookedness

Children may develop crooked or misaligned teeth for a number of reasons; however, it is important for a child’s general wellbeing that these orthodontic issues be treated before they reach adulthood.

Mossley Dental Care, which provides dentistry for patients from Glossop, highlights some of the main reasons behind children’s’ crooked teeth:

Genetics

The development of the body is largely determined by inherited characteristics – facial structure and teeth are no exception. For instance, if your mouth is too small for your teeth, your teeth will become over-crowded as they descend or they will be forced to overlap. If your top jaw and bottom jaw differ notably in size, then it is possible to develop a malocclusion or ‘bad bite’.

Breathing Issues

If children have breathing problems early on in life, such as asthma, enlarged tonsils or respiratory allergies, then they may not be able to breathe properly through their nose. Children with these issues often breathe primarily through their mouth, forcing their mouth to stay open longer than normal. This can affect the positioning of the tongue and lips as well as the jaw muscles and, in turn, the shape of the jaw – all of which can result in bite problems and incorrect tooth alignment.

Tongue Thrusting

Tongue thrusting is a behavioural habit developed in childhood (sometimes continuing into adulthood) where the tongue is pushed against or through the front teeth when swallowing. This repetitive pressure against the teeth can dramatically alter tooth alignment.

Thumb Sucking

Many young children suck their thumb as a form of comfort, however, if thumb sucking continues when their adult teeth begin to develop then it can dramatically alter the shape of their jaw and the positioning of their teeth.

Fortunately, advancements in orthodontic technologies mean that misaligned teeth and bad bites can be corrected.  If your child has crooked teeth, why not make an appointment at Mossley Dental Care to find out more about Damon Braces? Damon Braces have brackets with a sliding, ‘trap door’ mechanism, which is far more effective than traditional braces that use elastic ties. As such, Damon braces work much faster and require fewer adjustments and as Damon Braces only apply gentle pressure to the teeth they are more comfortable than traditional fixed braces.

CEREC at Mossley Dental Care for Patients from Stalybridge is One Step Away

CEREC is a dental reconstruction or restoration product that gives the orthodontist a new way to create a ceramic dental restoration using an array of computer assisted programmes such as CAD/CAM and 3D photography. Unlike more traditional methods restorations can be made and fitted in a single appointment.

First the tooth is prepared and then sprayed with powder, which helps with the imaging of the tooth. A 3D image is then taken and uploaded to the CERCE computer, which generates the required restoration parameters and this is sent to the milling machine, where the restoration is then created. The time needed to create the restoration varies and can be anywhere from 4 minutes to 20 minutes depending on what is required.

CEREC restorations are made with materials that mimic natural teeth and therefore the difference between how the actual tooth and the restoration react to hot and cold is very similar, so there is less chance of complications or issues.

CEREC at dentists serving clients from Stalybridge can also be used to deal with minor issues such as chips or even discolorations and can be used for enhancing the smile for a greater sense of security and self-confidence. Because CEREC is specifically designed to fit the contours of your tooth the orthodontist is able to save as much of the healthy tooth as possible, while managing to not only fix the problem but strengthen the tooth as well.

Apart from being able to have the work carried out in a single appointment, the restoration can be done to match the natural tooth’s colouring and is therefore less obvious and fits in with the rest of your natural teeth.

This method of tooth restoration was developed back in 1980 at the University of Zurich. The first patient to be treated was in 1985 and by 1986 Siemens had purchased the licence to market and develop the technology.  By 2002 there had been over 5,000,000 restorations done worldwide using the CEREC method and the number continues to grow each year.

Patients from Denton are Enjoying the Benefits of Damon Braces

Damon braces are a new type of modern brace, which promise to provide fast results while remaining comfortable and discreet. Traditional ‘train track’ braces are –as the name implies- not the best looking braces and can at times also be uncomfortable.

Damon braces with dentists serving patients from Denton, however, combine the discreetness of invisible braces with the reliability and swiftness of traditional, fixed braces. During research upon both Damon braces and traditional braces, it was found that patients with the Damon System were treated on average 6 months quicker than those wearing conventional braces. Patients also reported that fewer appointments were needed and a feeling of general satisfaction was found with the Damon brace.

While the Damon brace is less of an eye sore than traditional braces, the presence of thin wires across the front of the teeth mean that they are still noticeable, although in a more subtle way than most other braces competitors.

The brace works in a similar way to the Invisalign aligner, in that it applies less pressure and the teeth are moved into the desired position with less force, making the whole procedure more comfortable for the patient. Removing the steel or elastic ligatures that are commonly found in most traditional braces, means much of the friction is also removed and because there is less material used, only a minimum amount of maintenance is required, meaning fewer trips to the dentist’s office for adjustments.

Dental Implants at Mossley Dental Care for Patients from Rochdale

There are two things most people will notice about someone upon meeting them- first will be their eyes and second will be their smile. However, if a tooth is missing it can affect the structure of the face and many people may become very self-conscious about the gap, which is why dental implants are so useful. A dental implant is a cylindrical screw that can be fitted and used to house false teeth, known as restorations. The implant acts as a root for the false tooth and over time the false tooth will become fused to the jawbone, just as normal teeth are.

Dental implants for patients from Rochdale is an excellent way to replace one, several or an entire set of missing teeth and in addition to the obvious cosmetic enhancement, the procedure also has a number of other benefits. The implants work to kindle bone growth, which is lost at the time a tooth is removed and the bone in that area begins to shrink. It can help to protect other teeth from damage and chipping, and no work needs to be done on the neighbouring teeth in order to fit it.

Many people who have undergone this treatment have experienced a massive boost in self-confidence, as they no longer feel the need to hide their mouths from others. Once the implant is in and the false tooth is fitted the implant is to be treated just like any other tooth, so there is no need for any special care requirements, which makes it a very hassle free option.

Having an implant, or implants, fitted can literally save your smile and make you feel more comfortable in yourself. One of the main advantages of the dental implant is that it can, over time, become a natural part of the mouth’s structure, which means you are free to eat, speak and smile naturally.

Adults from Manchester embrace tooth braces

These days in Manchester when you walk down Deansgate you are just as likely to see someone in their 30s or 40s with tooth braces as you are to see a teenager who is undergoing orthodontics. The reason adult braces are becoming more popular is because they are available in metal free “plastic” versions which are far less visible and also that they work much quicker than they used to.

If you want nice straight front teeth the average treatment time at Mossley Dental Care is about six to nine months and Mr Winston is achieving consistently great results with Six Month Smiles braces for patients from all around Manchester. Last week a patient came to the practice from Middleton wanting to know if we could do anything for her crooked teeth. She had refused braces as a child because at the time she did not want to undergo 2-3 years of treatment. We told her that we could straighten her front teeth in about six months and we showed her the clear tooth braces that we use and she decided to get started as soon as possible because she had a holiday planned for later on this year and wanted to see if we could get her treatment done before she went.

We have various payment options including interest free credit so you can spread the cost of your treatment, we offer convenient evening appointments and we are just a short drive from the M60 with plenty free parking around the practice. Mr Winston has over ten years of orthodontic experience and has a MSc degree in the subject.

Of course not everbody is suitable for Six Month Smiles treatment but we offer various tooth straightening options and at your free consultation we can explain all your options. Other options include, Invisalign, the inman aligner, lingual braces and Damon braces. Mossley Dental Care treats patient from around greater Manchester and has a great reputation for quality orthodontic results.

Fillings the Gaps at Mossley Dental Care for Patients from Stockport

For adults, tooth loss can be a stressful and unpleasant experience because, unlike baby teeth, permanent teeth are not naturally replaced by another tooth. Having a gap in your smile can make eating and speaking difficult and uncomfortable, not to mention the effect it can have on your confidence. It is therefore important that you look after your teeth and maintain good oral hygiene in order to prevent tooth loss.

Mossley Dental Care, which provides treatment for patients from Stockport, look at some of the main causes of missing teeth:

Injury

It is possible to lose a tooth through injury no matter how old or young you are. Although accidents happen, precautions can be taken in certain circumstances. For instance, it is important to wear mouth guards when participating in contact sports or any other activities where your teeth may be at risk of trauma.

Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is caused by foods that are high in sugar or are particularly acidic, which lead to the formation of plaque – the sticky, white substance found on teeth. The bacteria in plaque gradually break down the tissue in the tooth, causing cavities that can lead to infection or tooth loss.

Gum disease

Gum disease is caused by the bacteria found in plaque. If left untreated, the gums recede from the teeth and the supporting bone tissue fixing the teeth in place is eventually lost. The teeth then become loose and fall out.

Smoking

Smoking increases the risk of developing periodontal (gum) disease. Smokers are more likely to develop gum disease than non-smokers, and are therefore more likely to suffer from tooth loss.

Whilst it is important to prevent tooth loss before it happens, if you have missing teeth and you want to fill the gap, at Mossley Dental Care we have a number of options. You might want to consider dental implants – porcelain teeth that are attached to titanium metal rods. These metal rods are inserted into the jaw bone in place of the tooth root. Implants can be inserted into both the top and bottom jaw to replace one tooth or multiple teeth. They can even be used to secure a full set of dentures.

If you’re worried about tooth loss or have missing teeth that you’d like to replace, contact reception to arrange an appointment.

Patients from Dukinfield can be Saved Their Blushes Thanks to Invisalign

Regardless of your age, undergoing treatment to straighten your teeth can be an embarrassing situation. Conventional metal braces are unsightly, and for many they can increase the sense of insecurity about their mouth and teeth. However, Invisalign aligners are different, as they are nearly invisible and can easily be removed for special occasions, making them a much more discreet option for straightening your teeth.

The main differences between Invisalign and conventional braces for patients from Dukinfield are as follows

  • First and foremost conventional braces are made of metal and are attached to the teeth and so cannot be removed until the treatment has concluded.
  • Invisalign are clear and removable. Unlike conventional braces there are no rough sides to causes soreness in the mouth and they can yield results in a shorter time frame than their traditional counterparts.
  • The cost of both is around the same, however, Invisalign can be cheaper dependant on the level of treatment required.

How do Invisalign aligners work?

Instead of having the aligners attached to the teeth and adjusted by an orthodontist, the Invisalign braces are created for each individual and are replaced about every two weeks for the next set and on average around 18 to 30 sets of aligners are used during the treatment. This means over time the teeth are moved and straighten little by little, until they have reached the final and desired position.  In addition to the increased comfort and cosmetic desirability of the Invisalign braces, a 3D plan of what your teeth will look like after the treatment is made before you start, to give you a clear image of what to expect.

Both forms of treatment have their pluses and minuses and whether or not Invisalign is for you may well depend on the level of work required. It is also worth noting that unlike conventional braces Invisalign can only be fitted by a trained dentist. This new approach to teeth straightening is perfect for anyone who doesn’t require extreme levels of treatment, as the Invisalign braces are more suited to treating mild orthodontic problems.

Patients from Hyde Learn how Lingual Braces can Improve Their Smiles

Lingual braces work in much the same way as conventional braces do, but instead of being fitted to the front of the teeth they are fitted to the rear of them. This means that from a cosmetic perspective they are preferable to traditional fixed braces, as you do not end up with what is sometimes referred to as ‘train-tracks’. Just like conventional braces they apply a continuous level of pressure on the teeth in order to correct the misalignment and create a straighter appearance.

The time frame for this version of the brace is 12 to 24 months, which is similar to conventional braces and the final results are the same as their conventional counterparts. The only difference between the two is the invisibility of lingual braces, which makes them a popular option for people who wish to correct their smile, without it being obvious to others that treatment is being undertaken.

Lingual braces for patients from Hyde are relatively straight forward to fit and it usually only takes two trips to the dentist. During the first visit a mould will be taken of your mouth, so that the brackets can be personally customised to fit you perfectly. The second visit will involve the brace being fitted, when the brackets are cemented onto the teeth and the dentist then installs the wire, which creates the tension needed to straighten the teeth.

Because the braces are fitted to the rear of the teeth there are some other points that need to be considered, such as the additional time it will take for your mouth to adjust. This may cause a slight lisp and the tongue may occasionally be caught, but once the mouth has fully adjusted it should be no more intrusive than a standard brace.

Lingual braces are, for all intent and purposes, the same as conventional braces, but are simply fitted to the rear of the teeth rather than the front. The job they perform is no different and there is no increase or decrease in treatment time. They are simply more atheistically pleasing, as no-one else will know you have had them fitted.

Patients from Droylsden are Learning to Live with Braces from Mossley Dental Care

The mouth is a sensitive area and any changes made within will take time to adjust to. Braces at dentists serving patients from Droylsden can initially be uncomfortable and learning to live with them can take time as well, but here are a few basic pointers, which can make the adjustment easier.

Care for Braces

Eating with braces: There are a number of things to avoid when you have a brace fitted, such as hard foods like apples, nuts and corn on the cob. Sticky food is another one to steer clear off, such as toffee and gummy bears and foods high in sugar and acid should also be avoided.

Brushing with braces: the braces themselves present a challenge when it comes to brushing the teeth – but for good oral health you must ensure that every surface is thoroughly cleaned. Small interdental brushes can help clean between the bracket and the tooth and washing the mouth out with mouthwash can also help clean the hard to reach areas. A soft brush may also be a better option, as it is able to spread out and clean in between the braces and the teeth.

Problems with Braces

There may be times when minor problems arise with your braces; however, some of these difficulties can be remedied at home.

If you find that you have loose or broken braces, or a loose band it is not considered an emergency unless you are suffering any pain, but you should avoid connecting any elastics or headgear until you visit your orthodontist. Book an appointment as soon as they become loose, so you can continue with your treatment.

Poking wires can usually be moved with the use of a cotton swab or pencil eraser, if a wire moves out of the tube or slot they can usually be put back in place using tweezers and this will hold until you can make an appointment to see your orthodontist.

The main thing to remember is that it may take a little time to adjust to the feeling of your new brace. Your mouth will feel sore for a while and there may be sores or ulceration inside the mouth during the first week or so, but in time this will settle down.
