The Difference Between Normal and Invisible Braces at Dentists serving patients from Glossop

Don’t hide yourself – hide your braces!

When we think of braces, we often picture the unsightly metal devices attached to the front of your teeth. But if you’ve got crowded or crooked teeth and dream of a straighter smile, then you’ll be pleased to know that these traditional braces are a thing of the past.

At Mossley Dental Care which serves patients from Glossop, we offer a choice of discreet orthodontic treatments that will perfect your smile without affecting your confidence.

Invisalign

Invisalign are clear aligners that are placed over the teeth for an effect that is almost invisible. Invisalign come with a unique ClinCheck treatment plan, which uses 3D virtual imaging technology to allow you to see what the finished result will look like before embarking on your treatment. You will return to the practice every two weeks for a new set of custom-made aligners. Each clear aligner will gradually alter the position of the teeth until the finished result is achieved. What’s more, Invisalign braces can be removed for eating, cleaning or for social occasions, making them a convenient alternative to traditional fixed braces. Invisalign also has a special programme to cater for the special requirements of young teenagers: Invisalign Teen.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are another invisible orthodontic treatment. Thin wires are tailor-made and fixed to the back of the teeth with small brackets, so that they cannot be seen when you talk and smile. Their discreet positioning also makes them easier to keep clean and treatment time is considerably shorter than normal braces (treatment lasts on average about 6 months).

Invisible braces don’t just look nicer, they are also more comfortable to wear. Traditional metal braces can irritate the cheeks and lips and may even cause sores and ulcers. Invisible braces mean that more and more adults are now deciding to have orthodontic work done, which they never dreamed they’d have the confidence to do.

Please contact Mr Winston at the practice to find out more about these exciting dental technologies.

Huddersfield residents ask for invisible braces

More and more adult patients from Huddersfield are requesting invisible braces to straighten their teeth. Many of these people have lived with crooked teeth for many years but decide in their 20s/30s/ or 40s to do something about it and Mossley Dental Care is offering a solution.

Invisible adult braces are available for tooth straightening that work very quickly and are very discreet. Various options are available but it is important to know that in many cases you no longer need train track braces for two years or more. You can now have clear braces which can straighten teeth in around 6 months. This modern orthodontic system is called six month braces or six month smiles.

Mr Winston has been using the system for a number of years and has hundreds of happy patients who have completed this treatment. Almost without exception these patients feel that this treatment has given them more confidence giving them the smile they always dreamed of.

Although the system is not suitable for everyone most cases of mild to moderate crowding or overlapping teeth can be treated in around six months. Mr Winston offers a free initial no obligation consultation and can tell you if you are suitable.

There are also many other clear/invisible brace systems that may be right for you which include: The Inman aligner, Lingual braces, Invisalign and  Damon braces which now come in ceramic brackets. Mr Winston offers many of the major orthodontic systems and has a Master of Science degree in orthodontics and has over ten years of orthodontic experience in clinical practice. He takes great pride in his high quality work and the practice offers a comfortable/relaxing environment.

Mossley is a short drive from Huddersfield and ample free parking is available. Please take a look at our orthodontic smile gallery to see some of the patients who have been treated at the practice.

The Best Option for Missing Teeth at Dentists serving patients from Dukinfield

There are a number of options when trying to replace a missing tooth, all of which are suited to difference conditions and circumstances. Your choice may be decided by whether you have a single missing tooth or several teeth that have been lost, how good your general oral health is and how much you can spend. Generally the choices are removable dentures, a fixed bridge and dental implants.

Not replacing a tooth in Dukinfield can occasionally be the best option, if you have lost a wisdom tooth or a molar towards the back of the mouth. However, for most teeth, replacing them when they are lost is the best option.

One option is to use a removable denture. In most cases this is the cheapest option and while they are hard to notice when in the mouth, they can take some time to adjust to and many people always feel uncomfortable wearing them. Compared to bridges and implants, dentures also require the highest level of maintenance.

The next option is a fixed bridge. This is a more permanent option, which requires the removal of healthy tooth material from the teeth surrounding the missing tooth. This gives an area for the bridge to be fixed, to support the replacement tooth. Most bridges need replacing at some point in the years following the treatment and due to the extra damage made to the surrounding teeth, this option is recommended less and less.

Often, dental implants are now recommended rather than bridges and, while more expensive, they are in most cases the best choice of tooth replacement. The process involves drilling into the jawbone of the lost tooth to create an anchor to fit the replacement tooth. After this has healed (which can take a number of months depending on the patient) the replacement tooth (known as the crown) is fitted.

Manchester residents love invisible braces

At Mossley Dental Practice every week many patients from all around Manchester come the practice with similar stories. Many times we hear from people in their 20s or 30s and they tell us that their teeth used to be straight but that in the last few years they have started to  overlap. Many of these people think that this is because their wisdom teeth have pushed through. But the research shows  that this is probably not the cause in most people.

Sadly teeth move throughout life. It is a natural ageing process. Just as the rest of your body changes as you get older the same  is true with your teeth. Mr Winston tells his patients that this movement of teeth is unpredictable it could happen quickly or very slowly and if treatment is not sought it is quite possible that teeth which are moving will continue to get more crossed over. Some people are lucky and their teeth stay nice and straight for life but we at present are not able to identify the causes of tooth movement and why some people have lovely straight teeth and others don’t.

Mr Winston at Mossley Dental Practice uses the latest orthodontic technology including invisible braces such as Six Month Smiles and lingual braces and at the end of treatment uses fixed and removable retainers to ensure that the teeth remain stable in their new positions. A set of retainers (fixed and/or removable) are included in the cost of your treatment so you don’t have to pay extra for them.

Sadly if you have had orthodontic treatment in the past but either not worn or not been provided with retainers then as you have got older your teeth may have moved a bit. If the “relapse” is minimal we may be able to fix the problem with a removable brace such as the Inman aligner, clear aligners such as Simpli5. If however, your teeth have re-crowded more severely you may want to consider fixed invisible braces such as 6 month smiles or lingual 6 month braces.

Teeth straightening is open to people of all ages and if you live in or around Manchester Mossley is a short drive by car and is close to the M60 motorway. Mr Winston has experience and a postgraduate degree in orthodontics and is happy to offer advice or a second opinion at a free initial consultation.

Retain Your Perfect Smile with the Help of Dentists serving patients from Denton

Orthodontic work is becoming more and more common, even among adults, as new styles of braces are developed that make improving your smile quicker and much more comfortable. It is tempting to think that all the hard work is over once your braces or aligners have been removed and that you can now enjoy your perfect smile without having to worry about orthodontic appointments; but as anyone who has had braces will know, the hard work is only just beginning!

After any permanent orthodontic work in Denton, such as fixed braces and aligners, has been completed you will be given a retainer to wear for anything from a few months to over a year to ensure that your teeth remain in their new and improved position and don’t slip back into their old crooked ways. Normally, you will be fitted for your retainer a few weeks before your braces are removed so they are ready for you to wear straight away.

It is vital that the patient understands why this next stage in the treatment is so important, as it is the patient alone who will be responsible for when and how often they wear the retainer. You will carrying on seeing your orthodontist regularly so that he or she can monitor your progress but as most retainers are removable, it is easy to slip into bad habits when it comes to wearing your retainer. There is nothing wrong with taking your retainer out on rare occasions, perhaps for a special event, but don’t get tempted into only wearing it when you are in the house as you will soon find problems developing with your expensive orthodontic work and you might even need to have braces fitted again.

Modern retainers are very light and are hidden away so that there is no real need to feel embarrassed by wearing one. Because they are removable, they are easy to clean and make it easier to maintain oral hygiene; and as long as you wear them seven a days a week, they will help you retain your gorgeous new smile for the rest of your life.

What can be done about Loose Dentures by dentists serving Stalybridge?

Tooth loss can occur for a number of reasons and could be a result of age, poor oral hygiene, or accident. Dentures provide an effective solution to tooth loss by replacing the gap in your smile and restoring your confidence.

Yet over time dentures can become loose and difficult to wear. Loose dentures are often uncomfortable, can cause problems with both eating and speaking and can even result in painful mouth sores and ulcers.

But there is a solution: dental implants from dentists serving patients from Stalybridge.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants act as the root section of your missing tooth and are made from titanium. These rods are placed into the jawbone under a local anaesthetic. There is a healing period of a few months and during this time the implant will fuse with the jawbone to form a secure base. The healing time may vary depending on the individual and temporary dentures may also be fitted. Finally, a porcelain tooth is connected to the implant, filling the gap. Your dentist will match your new tooth to your existing teeth, so it looks completely natural.

There are different types of dental implants – read on to find out which ones may be suitable for you.

  • Single or Multiple Implants – these are used for partial dentures when only some of the teeth need to be replaced.
  • Over-denture Implants – traditional dentures are fixed to the implant by a ‘press stud’ attachment, which will lock the dentures in to place.
  • Mini-dental Implants – used to secure full dentures.  These smaller rods are useful for patients who do not have enough space in their jaw to attach full-sized implants. They are also suitable for patients with a dental plate that is still in good condition but requires a little extra securing.

What are the benefits?

The procedure is safe and only minimally invasive. Dental implants should last a long time if well-cared for and your dentist will advise you on the appropriate aftercare. Following the procedure, your dentures should feel more firm and secure and you will no longer experience discomfort or embarrassment when trying to eat and speak.

Contact your dentist to fix your dentures and secure your confidence.

Nervous Patients can have Braces from Stockport serving dentists too

Nervous about your next dental appointment? You’re not the only one.

Dental phobia is a common problem and many people are scared of going to the dentist for a number of reasons.

  • Perhaps you haven’t been to the dentist in a long time and are worried that you will need a lot of dental work?
  • Perhaps the sound of the drill puts you off or the fear of injections or pain?
  • You might have had a bad experience with a dentist in the past that has put you off dentists altogether?

In recent years, dentists have focussed more and more on identifying the primary causes of dental phobia and developing new techniques for calming nerves and giving patients the best possible experience of dental care.

If a fear of your Stockport serving dentist has stopped you from getting straighter teeth and a beautiful smile, then read on, as you might just change your mind.

Why is it important to visit the dentist?

Regular dental check-ups help ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy and they can quickly identify and treat small problems before they become more serious. Neglected oral hygiene often leads to bad breath, discoloured teeth and much more serious problems, including gum disease and tooth loss. These issues can lead to problems with eating and speaking, as well as affecting your confidence.

What can a brace do for me?

Due to the advancement of orthodontic technologies, tooth alignment problems can easily be corrected. Gone are the days when the only solution was the traditional metal braces, popularly known as ‘train tracks’. Today, contemporary dental practitioners feel that it is important that the patient has choice in his or her dental treatment. At Mossley Dental Care, we offer this choice, with a variety of braces and aligners to suit your needs and requirements. With our ‘invisible’ braces, you can avoid the discomfort and the embarrassment of traditional braces and have straight teeth in just a few months and there’s not a drill in sight!

If you feel that you’re nerves are getting the better of you, come in and talk to us. There are many possible ways of helping nervous patients, from relaxation techniques to sedation or hypnotherapy in more serious cases.

Remember, your dentist is there to help you stay healthy and send you home with a smile.

Manchester residents smile about Six Month Smiles

In Manchester Mr Winston is providing Six Month Smiles treatment for his adult patients and as the name suggests most cases are completed in about six months. These adult braces use clear brackets and tooth coloured wires to move teeth quickly into their desired position.

Six Month Smiles is a non-extraction approach to treatment where space is created to align crooked teeth without removing healthy premolars. This means that treatment can be completed much quicker than traditional comprehensive orthodontics.

Of course we still offer comprehensive orthodontics with Damon braces at Mossley Dental Care but given the option many adult patients are choosing Six Month Smiles for their tooth straightening due to the speed of treatment. At your free initial consultation with Mr Winston you can discuss the pros and cons of short term orthodontics using Six Month Smiles versus comprehensive orthodontics using Damon braces.

Very often at Mossley Dental Care patients come in and tell us they are getting married in 6 or 7 months or they are going to an important function or they are going on holiday on a certain date and ask us what we can do for them. Mr Winston is well experienced to working to restricted time frames.

One of the disadvantages of extracting teeth is that it increases the overall treatment length as time is required to fully close the extraction spaces and this normally pushes treatment times over the one year mark and sometimes as much as two years. Although extraction therapy  is still sometimes used most adult patients can achieve straight teeth without having to resort to this.

Damon braces and Six Month Smiles are rapid, gentle, and comfortable methods for adults to achieve the straight teeth they always wanted. Often the teeth are a nice shape its just that they are out of line and so porcelain veneers are not the correct way to fix this problem. The correct solution is invisible braces for tooth straightening and Mossley Dental Care offers patients in and around Greater Manchester this opportunity to achieve the smile of their dreams. Other well known adult braces used by Mr Winston include Invisalign, Clearstep, lingual braces and the Inman aligner.

We are very proud of our treatment results and you can see a selection of before and after photos of patients treated at the practice on our website.

Help Your Child Maintain Good Oral Health in Glossop

As a parent it is important to know that your child is happy and healthy and there is no greater pleasure than to see them smiling and enjoying life. At Mossley Dental care, we want to help your child’s teeth stay healthy and strong and, more importantly, to keep them smiling. Here are some of the best ways you can look after your child’s oral heath:

Young Children

With young children in Glossop it is important to get them into a routine of brushing their teeth for two minutes, twice a day – once in the morning and once before bed. To help prevent tooth decay, you should monitor your child’s sugar intake, encouraging them to eat healthy snacks instead of sweets and fizzy drinks. It is also recommended that children use fluoride toothpastes and your dentist will be able to recommend some popular brands. Regular check-ups at the dentist are vital to check that your child’s teeth are in good health – why not try bringing them along to your own appointments as well?  This will familiarise them with the practice and help calm their anxieties.

Older Children and Teenagers

Dental care is just as important for older children as it is for young children and toddlers. There may come a time when your child requires braces and, although the prospect may seem daunting, they are not alone. Whilst many adults also choose to have braces, the treatment is much easier for children and young adults when their jaws and faces are still growing. Braces correct tooth alignment problems such as gaps, crowding and irregular bites. They will improve your child’s long term health by helping to prevent more serious problems with their teeth, gums and jaws. There is no set age for when children can have braces and your child’s dentist will advise you if and when they require treatment. However, most children and teenagers who require braces will have them in their first few years of secondary school.
