Rapid adult orthodontics in Manchester with Six Month Smiles

The truth is that tooth straightening treatments have been on offer for over one hundred years. But technology has progressed rapidly in the last ten years. In the olden days of orthodontics every tooth being moved needed to be banded with metal bands. Things progressed with adhesive technology when we were able to get rid of our metal bands and use metal brackets which were smaller, more comfortable and much easier to clean.

Manchester dentist spreading the word about six month smiles

Six Month Smiles has become so popular in Manchester because we are now able to give patients exactly what they want. Usually that is two things:

1) Clear braces. You no longer need metal train track braces. Ceramic brackets can be used which blend into your own tooth colour making then far less noticeable.

2) Rapid treatment. You no longer need braces for two years or more. You can now achieve your desired results in about six months.

So who is suitable for this treatment? The answer is most adult patients. Most of our Six Month Smiles patients from in or around Manchester are in their 20s, 30s or 40s but there is no upper age limit. If your teeth are mild to moderately crowded then we will probably be able to treat you without taking out any teeth. If your teeth are severely crowded then extractions may be necessary but in some cases this doesn’t increase the overall treatment time.

Every orthodontic case is different and Mr Winston will need to assess you prior to providing you with your options. This is done at a free initial orthodontic consultation. Implant treatment from Audenshaw dentists can improve your festivities

What are dental implants?

Dental implant treatments consist of a titanium “root,” which fuses to the jawbone much like a normal tooth root. These “roots” support or anchor replacement tooth restorations, which look much like natural teeth. Implants can be used to replace single or multiple teeth depending on a patient’s needs. Crowns, bridges and dentures are examples of replacement teeth or dental prostheses that can slot onto a dental implant to serve as a tooth.

Dental implants come in root-form, plate-form and mini. Mini implants are usually temporary until a fixed implant is fitted. Root-form implants are termed endosteal implants and involve titanium posts being inserted directly into the jawbone during surgery. Plate-form implants are termed subperiosteal implants because a frame, usually metallic, is attached to the jawbone beneath the gum tissue. In both endosteal and subperiosteal treatments, the implants fuse to the jawbone.

The procedure involves a little hole being made with a dental drill for the temporary “mini” implant to slot into, which stimulates bone fusion. New procedures such as the all-on-4 dental implant treatment reduce treatment and healing time and provide strong natural looking teeth that sit comfortably in the mouth when eating and speaking.

The Inman Aligner for tooth straightening in Manchester

Mossley Dental Care is a short drive from Manchester and provides a full range of orthodontic treatments including the Inman Aligner.

The Inman Aligner is a removable brace which means it can be removed for eating and cleaning. It can be used to straighten either upper or lower teeth (or both).

The active component of the Inman Aligner is a coil spring which is made of an alloy called Nickel-Titanium. This alloy provides a continuous gentle force on the teeth which means that once the appliance is fitted adjustments are usually not necessary as the coil spring will provide the correct force to fully align the teeth.

An accurate impression of your teeth is required to be sent to the laboratory to make the invisible brace. The laboratory technician moves your teeth on a stone model to the correct position so they are nice and straight and the Inman Aligner is made to fit over this new model of your teeth so that the inbuilt forces of the appliance will automatically straighten your teeth when it is fitted in your mouth.

The Inman aligner is very good at aligning the incisor teeth but for cases which require significant movement of the canines a fixed appliance may be more appropriate, such as Six Month Smiles. In cases where the teeth are very crowded/overlapped an expansion screw can be fitted into the Inman Aligner to widen the side teeth which can create space for the incisors to align.

Every case is different and we advise that you find an experienced clinician who has treated hundreds of cases with both fixed braces such as Six Month Smiles, Damon braces, and Lingual braces and removable braces such as the Inman Aligner and Invisalign.

Manchester dentist is experienced in Six Month Smiles

Mr Winston has been providing orthodontic treatments in Manchester for over ten years. He has graduated with a postgraduate Master of Science degree in Orthodontics and undertakes many hours of continuing professional development in order to stay abreast of current knowledge and techniques including Six Month Smiles.

Two years ago he travelled to the USA to meet the guru of six month braces in Ohio and attended a symposium on the subject and presented some of his own cases. During the symposium there was an exchange of ideas and discussion on the current best practice in short term orthodontics. Many of the intricate techniques which make rapid tooth straightening so successful in Mr Winston’s hands were discussed.

At Mossley Dental Care we see many patients who may have had unsuccessful orthodontics as a child many years ago or patients whose teeth have moved as they are getting older. Tooth movement is a natural ageing process and the most common teeth to become crooked with age are lower incisors but it is very common in upper teeth also. These patients are left with a choice on whether to let nature to take its course which may mean progressive worsening of the dental crowding or to have something done.

Mr Winston uses invisible braces to treat a lot of these patients in about six months. Some patients want totally invisible braces so lingual braces are used and some patients are happy with ceramic (clear) braces but there is no age limit to having treatment. Six Month Smiles will work at any age. The most common age group for this treatment are patients in their 20s and 30s but  Mr Winston has successfully treated patients in their 60s. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy you are probably suitable for treatment but if you do suffer from inflamed gums Mossley Dental has a dedicated hygienist surgery which is available to all our orthodontic patients.

Why Manchester patients are having orthodontics at Mossley Dental

These braces are quicker and more comfortable but the main advantage with these types of braces are that a lot of cases can be treated without having to extract healthy teeth. If you have been told that your child requires tooth extractions prior to braces there may be another way so why not contact Mossley Dental and a non-extraction approach may be possible. Mr Winston feels that it is always preferable to avoid extracting healthy teeth unless it is absolutely necessary.

NHS braces are available for under 18 year olds and a grading system of severity is used. If your child does not qualify for NHS treatment because of this Mr Winston offers private tooth straightening with Damon braces with affordable payment plans available. Manchester dentist achieving great result with Inman aligner

Every day at Mossley Dental Care adult patients from around Manchester are coming to see us for orthodontic services. A lot of these patients want tooth straightening with invisible braces and they want quick results but they don’t want to wear a fixed brace.

Maybe because of the job they do they just dont feel that they are able to commit to fixed braces with Six Month Smiles. There is no doubt that we have a lot of control over tooth movement with a fixed brace but we have been achieving great results with the Inman aligner for a few years now.

The Inman aligner is great for mild to moderately crooked teeth. This type of brace is removable so it can be taken out for important meetings or social occasions but needs to be worn at least twenty hours in twenty four to be effective. It uses springs to reset the tooth position. These springs are placed towards the back of your mouth so you cant see them and the anterior portion of the braceis made of clear plastic to make it less noticeable.

The great thing about the Inman aligner it is probably the quickest brace available with results in as short as two to three months in some cases.

Other options if you dont want to show fixed braces are Invisalign, Clearstep, Simpli5 or lingual braces which are fitted to the tongue side of your teeth so you cant see them.
